Domaine Batard Langelier 'Les Prières' Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie
Loire Valley, France
Grapes - 100% Melon de Bourgogne
Tasting Notes - Pale straw with glints of green, this is a wine of tension and precision. Saline minerality up front, followed by lemon peel, a whisper of brioche, and that unmistakable Atlantic sea air. It's lean and focused, the kind of white that makes you reach for another glass before you've finished the first.
The Wine - 100 percent Melon de Bourgogne from multiple plots planted on granite terroir. Vines are over 20 years old.
Farming - Certified organic since 2020. The Batard family have long farmed without herbicides or pesticides. Jérémie began converting to organic viticulture in 2014.
Winemaking - Vinification is simple and traditional: light pressing, settling, and fermentation with indigenous yeast in underground glass-enameled tanks. The wine rests on its lees for 7 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The Producer - Jérémie Batard is the third generation of his family to make wine in Maisdon-sur-Sèvre. He works alongside his parents Régine and Pascal. Today, Domaine Batard Langelier is a leading voice of the newer generation of Muscadet.
Drink It With - Oysters on the half shell, clam linguine, grilled fish, a wedge of aged goat cheese, or honestly, nothing at all.
