Château de la Font du Loup 'Signature' Côtes du Rhône Blanc

Grapes — Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Clairette

Region — Côtes du Rhône, Southern Rhône, France

Tasting Notes — Pale gold with an inviting aromatic lift. Lychee, citrus blossom, ripe apricot, and fresh white flowers on the nose, with a whisper of mint and honey. The palate is round and generous with a clean, refreshing acidity and a beautiful mineral finish that gives the wine its distinctively light-footed elegance. Warm and bright at once — the kind of white that makes you feel like you're sitting somewhere very good.

The Wine — A Côtes du Rhône blanc from organically farmed estate vineyards in Courthézon, at the northern edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The estate's north-facing orientation and predominantly sandy soils — rare in the southern Rhône — create a naturally cooler microclimate that slows ripening by up to two weeks compared to neighboring vineyards, preserving freshness and aromatic precision that most Côtes du Rhône whites simply don't have. Fermented separately by variety, no malolactic fermentation, preserving the natural acidity and vibrancy of the fruit.

Farming — Organically farmed. The estate is committed to preserving biodiversity — beehives produce estate honey, and sheep graze the vineyards for several months each year to maintain soil fertility naturally. No herbicides, no pesticides, no synthetic inputs. Certified HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3, with organic practices deepening year on year since 2021.

Winemaking — Each variety is harvested and fermented separately to preserve individual character, with no malolactic fermentation to maintain the wine's natural freshness and mineral tension. Meticulous attention at every stage from harvest through final assemblage and élevage — in the words of the estate, nothing is rushed and nothing is overlooked.

The Producer — Château de la Font du Loup — "Fountain of the Wolf," named for a natural spring on the property once frequented by wolves descending from Mont Ventoux — has been in the Mélia family since 1942. The estate sits on a terroir that is over 5.3 million years old, facing north toward the majestic Mont Ventoux on sandy soils unlike almost anything else in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Today it is led by Anne-Charlotte Mélia Bachas, fourth-generation vigneron and winemaker, who runs the estate alongside her husband Laurent. It is Anne-Charlotte's vision and care that defines the wines — fresh, elegant, deeply generous, and built on a profound respect for what this extraordinary piece of land has to offer.

Drink It With — Grilled scallops, herb-roasted chicken, fresh goat cheese, a summer ratatouille, or a long afternoon in the sun with nowhere particular to be.
