Domaine Pierre Richard 'Perles d'Automne' Crémant du Jura Rosé Brut
Domaine Pierre Richard 'Perles d'Automne' Crémant du Jura Rosé Brut
Grapes — Pinot Noir
Region — Le Vernois, Jura, France
Tasting Notes — Pale salmon-pink with a fine, persistent perlage — the "autumn pearls" of the name in the glass. Fresh red fruits on the nose with a dominant note of griotte cherry, wild strawberry, and a whisper of brioche from the lees aging. The palate is crisp, dry, and refreshing — bright acidity, delicate bubbles, and a clean, fruit-forward finish that makes it deeply easy to drink. Cheerful, honest, and completely unpretentious.
The Wine — A traditional method rosé Crémant from Domaine Pierre Richard's estate vineyards on the gravelly marl soils of Le Vernois, in the heart of the Jura. Vinified in stainless steel before undergoing its secondary fermentation in bottle — then aged on the lees for a minimum of 18 months before disgorgement, well beyond the Crémant appellation minimum requirement and more in line with the patient approach of a serious grower than a commercial producer. The name — "autumn pearls" — is both a reference to the delicate bubble structure and a nod to the season of harvest that makes it possible.
Farming — In organic conversion under ECOCERT since July 2018, and committed to full organic certification. The estate works cover crops between vine rows to limit erosion and improve water penetration, performs all soil work manually, and applies organic amendments only. Grapes are hand harvested and selected directly in the vineyard, then transported in cases to preserve fruit integrity.
Winemaking — Grapes are pressed gently on arrival using a pneumatic press. Primary fermentation in stainless steel using the estate's own native yeasts from the region and cellar. Minimum 18 months on lees in bottle before disgorgement. Sulfur additions limited only where sanitary conditions require them. Traditional method throughout — secondary fermentation in bottle, hand-riddled, disgorged with a small dosage for the Brut style.
The Producer — Domaine Pierre Richard has been rooted in Le Vernois since 1919, when Xavier Richard purchased his first vineyard plots. The estate grew steadily through three generations — Jean Richard established the domaine's winemaking reputation by the late 1940s, Pierre Richard extended it to the commune of Mantry in 1976, and the current generation continues the same patient, quality-first philosophy across 9 hectares between Le Vernois, Voiteur, and Mantry. Since 2018, the domaine has been in formal organic conversion — a commitment driven by a deep conviction that the health of the soil is inseparable from the quality of the wine. The full range extends from Crémant to Vin Jaune to Vin de Paille — but the Perles d'Automne is the wine that puts the Jura on your table with the most cheerful accessibility.
Drink It With — Fresh goat cheese with honey, a plate of charcuterie, fruit tarts, or any aperitif occasion that deserves bubbles with a genuine sense of place.
