Liébart-Régnier 'Rubis des Grès' Rosé Brut Champagne

Grapes — 100% Pinot Noir

Region — Marne Valley, Champagne, France

Tasting Notes — Deep ruby-pink with a lively, persistent mousse. Blackberry, morello cherry, and stewed strawberry on the nose — rich and expressive, with toasty notes and a whisper of smokiness emerging after aeration. The palate is round and generous on the attack, with black fruit and a lovely smoothness that gives way to a fresher, slightly tangy finish with red currant and a fine, smoky mineral edge. Full-bodied for a rosé Champagne, soulful, and deeply satisfying.

The Wine — 100% Pinot Noir from a single parcel called Les Grès in the village of Vauciennes — named for its distinctive sandstone and sandy soils, which give the wine its characteristic richness and empyreumatic depth. Made using the saignée method: red grapes are briefly macerated and bled off at the desired color intensity before fermentation continues, producing a rosé with far more body and complexity than a simple blending-method rosé ever achieves. Aged 3 years in cellar before disgorgement. Brut dosage of 7g — present but restrained, balanced by the wine's natural structure.

Farming — Certified HVE Level 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne — among the most rigorous sustainable farming certifications in the appellation, achieved in 2015. No synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or herbicides. The family views their 11 hectares as land they are borrowing from future generations — a philosophy that drives every farming decision. Not formally organic certified, but farmed with deep environmental commitment.

Winemaking — Saignée method with older Pinot Noir vines from the Les Grès parcel. Traditional method secondary fermentation in bottle. Three years on lees before disgorgement — extended aging that builds complexity, depth, and that characteristic toasty, smoky character. Brut dosage of 7g added at disgorgement.

The Producer — Maison Liébart-Régnier was founded in 1960 when Lucien Liébart and Georgette Régnier united their two families — both of whom had been farming the land for generations before the house was formally established. Based in Baslieux-sous-Châtillon in the Marne Valley, they are one of a small number of true grower Champagne producers who grow all their own grapes on estate vineyards and bottle under their own name. The estate is now proudly led by sisters Alexandra and Marion Liébart, fourth generation of the family, working alongside their parents Laurent and Valérie — a genuinely female-led grower Champagne house, which remains rare in a region still dominated by large négociant houses. The family describes themselves as "country people through and through" — and it shows in every bottle.

Drink It With — Prawn curry, braised duck legs, Saltimbocca with sage, quail stuffed with prunes, smoked salmon with ricotta, or any occasion that deserves Champagne with genuine depth and character.
